Psalms 89:26

“He shall cry unto me, thou art my Father, etc.] Not by creation, as he is the Father of angels and men; nor by adoption, as he is the Father of saints; but by generation, being the begotter of him, (<190207>Psalm 2:7) so that he is Christ’s own and proper Father, and Christ is his own and proper Son, (<430518>John 5:18 <450803>Romans 8:3,32), and he frequently called him his Father, and asserted him to be in this relation to him, (<430517>John 5:17) (<431030>John 10:30 20:17), and addressed him, called upon him, and prayed unto him as such, (<401125>Matthew 11:25 <431141>John 11:41 17:1,5,11,24,25 <422334> Luke 23:34,46), “my God”; that chose him to be the Mediator, Redeemer, and Saviour;…”

“He shall cry unto me, Thou art my Father - He shall appeal to me, or come to me as a Father, and as his only hope and defense. My God - He shall come to me as God, and shall recognize me as his God, his only trust and hope. And the rock of my salvation - See the notes at Psalms 18:2. The meaning of all this is, that he would at all times recognize him as his only trust and hope, and that he would be faithful on his part to God. return to 'Top of Page'”

“89:26-29 The Lord adopted David as his son, appointed him as his commander over the nations, and promised to support him forever. Verse 26 recalls a verse from David’s song of praise (2 Sam 22:47).”
