22:1–23:8 This collection of messages to the last Davidic kings of Judah culminates in the promise that God would one day place a true descendant of David over his people. 22:1-5 Jeremiah delivered a statement, drawn from the Sinai covenant, that summarized the duties of a king of Judah. Fulfillment of these duties would ensure the continuation of the dynasty of David in Jerusalem; refusal would bring the unimaginable disappearance of the palace and the kingdom.
