Because he considereth, &c.] Being come to himself, and in his right mind, he considers the evil of his ways; what they lead to; what they deserve at the hand of God; and what he may expect, should he continue in them; (see <261814>Ezekiel 18:14); and turneth away from all his transgressions that he hath committed; not only repents of them, but reforms from them; and that not from one, or a few of them, but from them “all”; which shows the truth, reality, and sincerity of his repentance; there being a change of mind, a change of actions and conversation follows: he shall surely live, he shall not die; (see Gill on “<261821>Ezekiel 18:21”). Jerom interprets the just man turning from his righteousness, of the Jews leaving the author of righteousness, denying the son of God, and smiting the heir; and the wicked man turning from his wickedness, of the Gentiles, and of their conversion of faith.
